STATEMENT "Where I'm from and who I am"
Hello and thank you,
Thank you for your interest in reviewing my background and credentials for public office, specifically the office of the Bullitt County Judge Executive. I would like to tell you about myself.
My family has very deep roots in Bulitt County and a record of public service. I am a 6th generation Bullitt Countian. My great-great-great grandfather Henry O. Maraman was an early settler in Bullitt County and landowner. Henry's son George W. Maraman, my great-great-grandfather, was the Post Master General in 1887. He owned and operated Maraman's Dry Goods and Maraman's Funeral Home in the early 1900's. Nat Maraman, son of Henry O. Maraman, and my great-great uncle, was Bullitt County Judge at the time of his death in 1950.
Roy L. Maraman, my great-grandfather, and son of George W., continued his father's business of Maraman's Dry Goods and Roy L. Maraman Funeral Home until his death in 1962. My great-aunt Betty Maraman, daughter of Roy L. Maraman, was the first woman elected to the Shepherdsville City Council in 1972. She also continued the operation of Maraman's Funeral Home until her death in 1985. At that time her son and my cousin, Roy E. Welch, continued the funeral business until selling it to David Billings. The business is still operating as Maraman-Billings Funeral Home.

Next is my grandmother Billie Roy (Maraman) Pennington, daughter of Roy L. Maraman and sister of Betty Maraman. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1939 and subsequently graduated from Nazareth College with a degree in Elementary Education. She retired from her teaching career at Roby Elementary School in 1988. My mother, Sharon L. (Pennington) Klosterman, daughter of Billie Roy (Maraman) Pennington, retired in January 2008 as Official Court Reporter for Bullitt Circuit Court.
In April of 1963, I was born in Norfolk, Virginia. My father, Depp E. Rasner, was stationed at LIttle Creek Amphibious Naval Base. Upon his discharge from the Navy we returned to Bullitt County in August of 1963. We moved into my mother's childhood home and I was raised in that home. My mother still resides in the same home she and her children (myself, brother and sister) were raised in. I have 1 brother, 1 sister, 3 stepbrothers, and 1 stepsister.
I attended and graduated from St. Aloysius School here in Shepherdsville, as did my siblings and my mother. I graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1981. In 1987 I graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, minoring in Marketing, and a member of the Dean's list. Following graduation, I traveled the country while working in the healthcare industry. In 2001 I left the healthcare industry and started my own business which I continue to operate today.
In November of 2006, I campaigned for my first election to public office, Shepherdsville City Council. Although I was unsuccessful in that bid for public office, it was a great learning experience. In August of 2007, I was appointed Deputy Judge Executive of Bullitt County by the current Judge Executive Melanie Roberts.
Currently, I am an active member in many local civic organizations such as the Shepherdsville Lions Club and the Bullitt County Arts Council. I am very active at St. Aloysius, currently serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee and Co-Chair of the Picnic Committee. I have led the formation of two non-profit organizations, Hot River Nights, Inc., and Bullitt County Bright and Beautiful, Inc., both of which serve varying needs of Bullitt County.
I am a native son of Bullitt County who cherishes many, many memories as a youth growing up in this community. I love Bullitt County and the potential it has to offer continued growth and prosperity to the citizens.
